Good Bye San Fran

The last two days of the conference were eventful. Tuesday I attended sessions on bridging the gap between the sciences and on using social media in EPO. The social media conversation was my favorite - mostly cause it confirmed that my EPO team is the shizz. There is no "best practices" or rule book on SM at the moment, so we are all making things up as we go along. It seems a bit intrusive, for us education types to be poking our heads into people's conversations and feeds,
but at the same time this is too good of an opportunity to waste. It's a non-invasive way to spread the word about your products and become a resource for the public. We currently have two twitter accounts: @NASA_SDO and @NASA_SDO_Edu The first is for the general public and the last is for classroom teachers. It's my big experiment this year. Ideally I'd like teachers to use it as a source of info during their day, and a conversation starter online. Right now I'm attempting to build my following and learn what useful twitters look like.

After the sessions I went to Planet Granite with a climbing friend I met on the beach on Sunday. I had a blast. The gym has cracks and chimneys and all the grades are sand-bagged compared to ET in Rockville. I was sailing up 5.10's like they were 9's... which they pretty much were. I liked it. Did a 5.11a that was tons of fun and ended the night on a good note.

The next morning I presented to a raging crowd of six people. :-P Kind of a waste, but I hold firm in the belief that my session was one of the only ones that actually gave good information on refining our practice, one of the conference themes. I hope someone learned something.

Flying home was less exciting. No one died on the plane, but we did have a bumpy descent. I got home around 2am Thursday, slept a bit, then went into work to play evaluator for Family Science Night. Whoosh! Eventually I'll catch up on sleep... eventually... Pictures will be up soon, I promise!
